Protect your roof before it costs you more

Moss Removal & Roof Treatment

Moss on a UK roof is more than an eyesore. It holds moisture directly against your tiles, accelerating freeze-thaw cracking in winter and quietly degrading your roof surface over time. We physically remove moss and apply a professional biocide treatment that kills remaining spores and slows regrowth, without pressure washing that could damage your tiles.

Free gutter clearance included

Scraping moss fills your gutters. We clear them as part of every roof job. It's already on the van and it's the right thing to do.

What's included

  • Moss physically scraped and removed from tiles using specialist tools, no pressure washing
  • Full biocide treatment sprayed across all roof surfaces to kill remaining spores and inhibit regrowth
  • Gutters cleared as part of the job. Dislodged moss is flushed through and removed
  • Visual inspection of tiles, ridge and verge. Any damage or lifted tiles flagged to you
  • Safe access methods used throughout. We avoid walking on roof surfaces wherever possible
  • Post-treatment guidance provided. The biocide continues working over weeks after application

Common questions

Why do you remove moss manually rather than just spraying it?
UK regulations (HSE Plant Protection Products guidance updated 2015) require that moss is physically removed before any biocidal treatment is applied. You cannot simply spray active moss growth and leave it. Manual removal also ensures the biocide reaches the tile surface itself, rather than sitting on top of a thick moss layer. It's the correct, compliant way to do the job.
Is it safe for my roof tiles?
Yes, provided it's done correctly. High-pressure washing of roof tiles can crack, lift, or erode them and force water up under overlaps. We do not pressure wash roof surfaces. Moss is removed mechanically with non-abrasive tools, and the biocide is applied at low pressure. Your tiles are protected throughout.
How long does the treatment last?
In our experience on Nottingham roofs, treatment holds regrowth back for around 12 to 18 months depending on the roof's aspect, surrounding trees and foliage. North and west-facing slopes in sheltered, wooded areas regrow faster than south-facing open roofs. We'll give you an honest indication for your specific property. Re-treating every year or two keeps regrowth in check, so the roof never gets the chance to green up.
When will I see the results?
The biocide continues to work after application, any remaining moss and algae will gradually die off and weather away over the weeks and months following treatment. The roof will look progressively better rather than instantly transformed. This is normal and expected. It means the treatment is working.
